I'm Buying A Bass Guitar
any other things i need with it?
note:i know nothing about actual musical instruments
I know a dude who plays metal with an ibanez bass, and is real good with it.He tuaght himself.
I've been playing bass for a ten years or so, and nobody mentioned Rickenbacker or Music Man but they both make dope as hell basses and they are some of the coolest looking, in my opinion. Plus the Fender Jazz and P-basses are great standbys. Don't get an Ibanez, even if its a good bass you'll still feel weird playing it.
The SG bass is dope, if you can find one...
I wouldn't recommend starting out with flatwound strings, they feel and sound a lot different than regular strings, and it might be harder to switch up to regulars from flats than vice-versa. Also consider checking out fretless and uprights after you get a hang of the regular shit.
Most important, do what feels best to you and don't waste practice time playing shit you already know. Save it for warming up.
just a matter of finding a good teacher
from my experience.... lessons=learning to hate the instrument....... bass... if you learn on your own you will learn things that no instructor can teach you...
^^ deffinately do what this fellow said ^^
word of advice, GET LESSONS.....
not to sound like a smart ass but that will kinda keep you in check i guess, like i know cats who get, lets say, an organ, and then play some gay ass shit, mad basic shit with it. And then they get pissed and give up. But seriously, i think thats cool that your learning to play an instrument, but just get lessons. Im sure mad community colleges offer shit like that, plus im sure youll be taught history about that and really learn to appriciate that shit.
learn the notes and shit so when you tell someone you can play and thern they give you somethin to play you wont be like what the fuck is this.
hahahahaha their guitars are
they make nice basses though
ibenez is on some poison shit, hair rock.
fender p bases are cool
ibanez makes some ill shits too.. my boy almost got a 5 string fretless ibenez for 230 bucks, but he didnt take it cause he's a fucking moron
I have a Fender bass as well, Pete's on point with the guidelines though. One other thing to add is to practice at least 10 minutes with it to get more flexible. Do the 1-2-3-4 on the frets, down the strings, back up again then reversed a few times. Once you get warmed up, you'll be able to come up with better, less stiff sounding shit. Also, don't be discouraged if it takes you a couple of months to get a nice lick and good sound, and learn to play with your fingers, later fuck with picks (don't let nobody tell you picks ain't shit because you can come up with good effects using them). Good luck.
I always thought active pickups didn't sound so great. Fender Precision and Jazz basses are nice.
Man dawg DO THAT SHIT!!!
'Pete' has pretty much dropped the knowledge needed..
Now just do the research... And follow-up on it..
Once u get to playin' an instrument it becomes addictive...
I went from the drums to xylophone to bass and now to the keys.. Think about all the lil' shit u can do with basslines once u learn that shit!!
But naw dawg, great investment.. There needs to be more peeps interested in MUSICAL instruments..
But that's okay..
Let niggas keep sleepin'!
gooch's shit is about to even more nasty.
Get ready for them callasus bro, hands will be hurt for a minute.
Fretless are nice (and expensive). I dont play too much though.
fuck yea man, do that shit (see my post above about drums/rhythm section...same shit applies)
never too late
i didn't start playing drums til i was 19
just get some shit thats comfortable and feels right
im not a bass player, but i have a bass... and it's fun as hell
i got one with a skinnier fret board, just cause it's comfortable and easier...
get what FEELS best
yeah the fender jazzes are kinda dope.. i was looking at them but i got a shecter cause it looks much mor badass... and it had active pickups..... and it looked like some sort of deathmetal shit....
originally i wanted a sg bass cause thats what the jackson 5 used.... the shecter is kinda like that but a little diff...
i go way out of the way to be different sometimes......
fender jazz bass
do a lot of reasearch.... find out what kinda pickups sound best to you...
get one that looks really cool, seriously if it looks cool you will pick it up and practice more..
consider a five string.... that low B is somthing you might want....
go to bassplayer.com and read some reviews....
learn about setting up a bass with proper intonation....learn about string types flatwounds or roundwounds they sound diff and they play diff
im thinking about switching to flats cause the sound more like an upright (less bright more hip hopish and they are easier on fingers less fret buzz too)....
look into direct boxes.... thats how most studio shit is done these days...
I got a sans amp for bass its dope xlr in Phantom power so it will go right into your digi and you could also plug it into tube preamps with phantom and leave the sans amp part off.... also check the bass pod....
if your going to get it from a store bring sombody who plays bass well with you if possible....
finally make sure you will actually play it enough so you get proficient enough for it to be usefull for you...
i was about to sell my bass cause it wasent being played enough (too many other toys).. but then i broke my leg and couldnt walk for a month... this gave us time to get reaquantied....
