Please don't go for the Maxi crISIS. I had one and although featurewise it looks interesting, performancewise it isn't all that good. It's quite noisy, so basically you'll need to get a good noise reduction plugin too. It has the worst ASIO drivers ever, so you can forget about playing software instruments at low latency.
If your budget allows you to spend some more, then you should take a look at the Terratec EWS88 MT instead.
And if you need bass sounds, then go for a soft synth. Do you use a VST host like Cubase VST 3.7/5.0, Logic 4.x or FL3? Then VST Instruments like the Muon Tau Pro or the more expensive TC Works Mercury-1 are recommended.
And an allround synth like the Native Instruments Pro-52 can produce good bass sounds too. And it isn't monophonic. And also DXi/MAS/DirectConnect compatible, so you'll be also able to use it in Sonar and ProTools for example.
pay much money for cables
