Boring... So I'll Talk About Me =)
i'm thinking of going to law school... does anyone have any advice for me?
i'm gonna go to a test prep spot like kaplan... and then take the LSATs... but from there... it's really tough to get into law school... so i gotta ACE the test
"Example- While at Suffolk he wrote an essay on James Earl Ray (dude who shot MLK). Anyways, he fucked this paper up big time. In every instance where he was suppposed to write James Earl Ray he wrote James Earl Jones"
oh my god... you have me cracking up with this statement...
i feel you completely on the starting something and not following through tip... i don't have the money, time or energy to not finish what i start when it comes to this, so i gotta be sure
you should go to that seminar i was talking about, for real... they might have one in your town... check this site www.lsac.org for more info...
Hey Funktress I've been considering Law School too and seem to have the same problems you are.
One thing I know for certain:
Getting in isn't the hard part. My friend recently graduated from Suffolk University with a BA in Sociology. This kid isn't the brightest light in the tree. Example- While at Suffolk he wrote an essay on James Earl Ray (dude who shot MLK). Anyways, he fucked this paper up big time. In every instance where he was suppposed to write James Earl Ray he wrote James Earl Jones, he got a C on the paper and is now in his second week at Suffolk Law. He said the LSAT isn't that difficult and since he is barely literate I agree with him. But good luck to you and I hope you make the right decision. Most people tell me to "go for it" but I'm all set with starting law school and backing out, I don't like to quit. this is a long ass post
don't knock the outfits...
roaches and termites and spiders, oh my!
the Orkin Woman?
medical school = 8 years... at least
jenn, i'm an exterminator
hee hee hee
Remember theres always medical school.
what do you do now Funk?
Eh funk now is actually the best time to go into debt. the interest rates are as low as they will be as long as the FED is trying to cut interest rates and spur spending .
you are not the only one who is thinkin the same things...law schoool aplications have doubled with in this last year as the job market is shallow and the people see that more education will lead to higher paying jobs,
But i agree with Teenwolf that you should try it out before you dive head long into it.
a law degree will open alot of doors.
best of luck
seems like a big move do your thing hun...
thanks for all your advice...and comments. math, my friend who didn't get accepted to law school has actually been working as a paralegal for the past couple years and she hates every second of it. she said she basically does all the dirty work for the lawyers... but i can understand how it could be a good start into the field... an eye opener.
really, part of what would hold me back other than the amount of debt i'll be in, is the fact that i really like what i'm doing now... i'm learning so much and i have the opportunity to travel all over the world... but i don't know how far i can go in this job... how high on the ladder... so i'm looking at other possibilities... and i can't afford to stop working in order to go to school, so i would have to go to night school which would take longer... but that's just the way it goes, i spose
math, you'll be a great teacher... you're very patient and SMAHT!
IB, i wouldn't mind looking like lucy liu NOW, never mind when i'm 30... or 33... shoot... although... does she have an ass? there's some things that can't be sacrificed!
if that's what you think you really want to do then go for it at 150%. just remember a lot of time has to be invested into this..make sure you want to spend the rest of your life doing it. good luck ma
I have a friend who is a professional student....it's sad.
Anyway, lawyers suck. I have been working for em for ten years. The legal field is not all it's cracked up to be...especially for lawyers...they all got into it because they thought it would be fun and they would get paid...it's hard work and not worth the money.
but, hey...go for it.
"and 30 is still young"- lol.. funk your beautiful and smart.. but you aint even asian.. you think your gonna look like Lucy Liu when your 33 or something!.. lol.. nah but on the real.. do your damn thing.. i find engineering a much more exciting major..(there are so many asian girls in that major.. because they are soooooooooooo smart haha)
Best post I've seen here in months
Funk - if law motivates you and if you're sure that is really what you want by all means do it
Math and Shotta - teaching is a very respectable profession (at least in my opinion) its kinda jacked that our society does'nt see the need to pay the educators of the future better than what they're currently doing
As for me I'm working feverishly at moving from IT into real estate development. Architechture and interior design is obviously what I'm meant to do, I can read about and talk about that kinda thing for hours.
lol hahahha goodluck gettin in law school girl. u'll make it i have fait in u..hehe. peace
i feel you.
and for me, it's about having shit to do, and having shit that i LIKE to do. already i've spent my summer keeping busy on the lesson planning tip... i go all day, loving the shit, thinking of new ways to teach "boring" things.
ha, hopefully i won't get fired for my little units on evolution, stem cells, ADD/ADHD, safe sex, and all that other good stuff.
so are you gonna teach history...
or HIS-story? haha j/k, i know the deal.
kids are awesome. too bad they're all ritalined out... damn.
yeah I know what I'll make....seriously though that's straight for me alone....and I know it will be hard doing both....but it's something I want....I mean I seriously don't want to grow old in the states....actually I should say I DO want to grow old in Jamaica.....but yeah....I'mma be teaching History....haha...I might get fired for some shit I'mma say....nah but yeah I know that shit is going to be hard but that's the type of situation that I do best in....if I don't have shit to do I won't do shit....but if I have shit to do...I'll do it....haha...for real though....
you are aware of what H.S. teachers earn state-side, right? i'm starting at 31,000 a year... w/ some nice-ass education and shit behind me. i'll be scraping by...
teaching HS while working on a PhD? man you must be a workaholic... good luck. what are you gonna teach?
i have earth science and "modern science." you best believe i'm teaching my kids the "science" on ADD and shit... peace!
