Ernie And The High Notes/funk Music
man i can't stop listening to this shit .
just got it in mp3 .
i wish my amp could work properly , i'd go get some funk records right now .
i was wondering , for you people that like to listen to funk music , how the fuck can you know what's good or not ?
most of these stores (with old shit )around here don't have a turntable that lets you preview the record . how the fuck am i suppose to know what's banging or not ?
that's just sad . and that's just plain wrong.
haha yeah, they cant get a 10 dollar cd but they can get a 350 dollar 7 inch peice of plastic. lotsa cats like that. go figure.
its mad shit tho, in big daddy catto was like, i cant afford this piece of equip, i cant get that etc etc. sell a fuckin record! these heavy collector types may have records worth beads but they still have it hard cos a lot of what they get they spend on the next big "discovery". they have serious assets but no liquid, capiche like an 80s broker
yeah, dude looks like a heroin fiend
i want his 45 collection like nobodys bidness... i vent heard his mowax shit either
malcolm catto is a tramp! but i still want his 45s collection. anyone heard any of his solo tracks on mowax? i havent
exactly, the recent boom in funk 45s popularity is all cool and all but its going in the wrong way.. kids will say blah blah is so funky yada yada then you get it and the shit straight sucks, heads just like shit cause its rare. its like if beat diggers rode the jock of rolling stone import test presses from 1932 or some bullshit, in mono only of course. but yeah, i shouldnt say keb is weak. just his comps, and most of his following. malcom catto is a herb.
hahaha word to bakelite. keb digs up ruff tunes tho, and its true that they are fantasy records for most of us.
darge et al get props for being on the funk wagon when i was trying to crayon in the lines, the £500 records theyve got now they got for £10 then. they were on it at the right time and without them going to the states to dig out US warehouses a lot of this music wouldnt be around. they went for a long while not making any cash out of their love, now theyre getting a little back.
remember kids, rare doesnt equal good, it just equals expensive. good is good, rare has old men who never go out cumming all over your crates. do you want that???
and if memory serves its "ernie and the top notes"
you just know. its called "digging"
dare i say.... dare i say it? keb darge's shit is weak. gimmie some cameo everyone over 30 knows about that jams hard over some goddamn obscure ass high school band from oaklahoma that did a cover of funky __insert animal name here__ and pressed up 5 copies cause they couldnt play for shit in the first place.
aah, you either have to get a portable kiddies turntable, know your shit or have lady luck on your side. you just have to learn like with other types of music, labels, artists, years etc etc. look for plain labels
