yo, who's rockin' this up in here? i got this joint 'cause at the time, i could't afford the mpc3000. i can do everthing that i need to do with it, since i got the digi001, and that covers up alot of things that are wrong with it in my opinion like...
1. no note repeat function: i can just duplicate the notes i need on pro-tools to make like, REAL,REAL fast drum rolls, instead of just transposing the notes to 2 pads side by side and tapping that shit out.
2. the sequencer SUCKS!!!: the sequencer on the mpc3000 is the best, game over, fight won. but the efx on the asr-x crush the ones on the mpc. Outkast' producer, MR.Dj, told me along time ago, when i was first buying gear to get the 3000, but like i said, a brotha likes groceries(that's what my cousins in louisiana call food), so i copped the asr-x from guitar center off of buford highway here in the Atl. i've seen and have had the chance to compare the 2 and i've seen the mpc lock tight to a beat, where as the asr-x sometimes loses notes and cuts off the ends of some sequences(aint that right MR.Rictor, my production partner& the best asr-x programmer in the world, or at least in georgia!)
look, i aint bitching, i got what i paid for. i maxed out the memory to 64 megs(i think the mpc can only go to 32?) and i bought the 8 output expander so i can dump into pro-tools, it's just that in my opinion, compared to the mpc3000, it's just a complimentary piece of gear for me to use to compose on and then dump into pro-tools and fix shit up. like i asked at the beginning, anyone else rockin' this? if i can help anyone out with it, drop me an email and, hopefully one day, i'll get that mpc and i'll be asking ya'll some shit too....and of course, as usual, it's not what you got, it's how you use it....PEACE!!!(as i watch jay-z's boys bouncing basketballs on Mtv....)
yea i cant wait to link that digi001....thanx EAF, no doubt
The X is good for any serious producer, but it's not as user friendly as other machines. But you got to know how to rock it. Props to asrxuser for the phat shit months back. I've used an X, and yeah the sequencer is not as simple as a MPC, but you just have to know how to improvise.
its a sequencer
but yo, that sounds like something i might have to pass on. I was thinkin about it, and as much as i love pro tools, i don't have too much business out of state. It makes no sense for me to get it. I got other shit i need to pay for. I'ma pass this shit up
but i am gettin that book
yo tom, what's a mmt-8? something by alesis, right?
hey yo, gooch, this sounds like it'll be cool....i believe this is the way of the future, cats staying at home and networking digitally to send each other shit in real time, then hooking up in one spot occasionaly to transform shit on the spot. saves travel time and the whole 9. i think, from what the rep told me, they're gonna charge 25$ a month for this service, with the first 30 days free, kinda like selling drugs... i know our studio will probably get in on this, as we're getting ready to renovate shit, but as for me, i think i'll wait until i can afford that expense...with these twins coming, i can think of more important shit to spend 300$ a year on, you know? at least until i see that everyone else is deeming it as necessary...
yo, the book costs 34.95, from berklee press, and yeah ez', it's cool. i didn't know what the fuck i was doin' until i hooked up with rictor and the divine mind crew. they went out of their way to make me feel like fam and i'll never forget that yo, for reals...i ain't trying to get emotional on niggas though, but it's all love...
rockin that joint only as a sampler(the fx are bomb, the editing is bomb, the sequencer BOMBED!) but im rockin a MMT-8 which is dope.
damn nodoze, you're rockin a asr x too?? thats the exact set up i think i'm going to go for when i get a little weight to my pockets, asr-x and digi001. good to know maing, this way i'll have somebody i can bother every time i got a question
i will be buying that book. Yes. I will
nodoze...that shit sounds ill as fuck. That way we can work on shit without travelling. But you can still do that by just mailing a CD with the session folders. Sounds ill, but i wonder how much they're gonna charge
yo, it's called "Producing In The Home Studio With Pro-Tools", and i will be copping that shit my dam self! it's hard having to always go back and forth to those dam pdf files, don't it?! good lookin' cryptic...
yo gooch!!! yeah, i didn't mean to go on and on, but you know, pro-tools is the shit! it's also frustrating when you know how much shit that they left out of the 001....and we got a copy of that pro-tools 5.2! but it's main upgrade from pt5.1.1 is that they've incorporated this shit called the digistudio which is a combination of things, like email and shit which'll let's say, for instance, you and i to work on a session while you're in NY and i'm here in ATL....it's kinda cool, but i don't think it'll be a free upgrade...nono my brutha, you gotta buy that shit!!you gotta setup an account and whatnot....it's,to me, damn near like Morpheus, where you can share files and whatnot....and if someone cracks it, oh well, you still gotta pay digidesign to get in....and here i go ramblin' again....6 more minutes and i'm outta here!!!15 hours of being here in stank and i can't work on nothing 'cause i gotta be here by the door...it sucks, but at least i'm here...and can someone tell me the diff between a "best rap video" and a "best hiphop video"?
yo gooch... there is a new book dedicated to pro tools LE... i just read about it on the digidesign site
Im not sure how good it is... but im sure there is something to be learned from it... i will be copping it with out doubt
nodoze....my nucka ramblin bout pro tools...hahahah!!!!
i never remember what colors go with what tracks. Shit is annoying. There's so much shit in that program i don't even use and its sad. Oh well
1st: i haven't had to replace the pads...yet!!! but i'm in this asr-x users forum on yahoo and one guy went over how to do it. you have to take off the face plate and unsolder the encoders that control the data when you twist a knob. this is tricky and if you burn anything on your circuit board, then you now have a 14 pound red paperweight(lol). be careful if you do this, okay?
the encoders are soldered in 3 points, so just unsolder at those points, and then solder your new encoders in and walla!(i know it's voila', but fuck spelling it like that....and i don't normally say walla out loud to anybody by the way...)
you can't really get the knobs from ensoniq anymore. they sold their parts business to :
EPR Electronics (845)323-1237
the knobs cost 4.64 cents, with the encoders included and and i'm sure that the second hardest part to do this is to line the coverplate up with your knobs to put that mother back on...
the sequencer on the Digi001 is tighter than j.Lo...sorry, saw her tonite on the mtv video shit and mommy got me hard AGAIN! she sux singing live though... anyway, pro-tools is great. all you gotta do is record enable a track and hit play on your asr-x and dump trax 1-8 in one pass, mute any others as i had to find out the hard way, and then do another pass of trax 9-16(thanx mike v. for that tip a while back playa), as the digi001 only has 8 inputs on it's interface box, but the asr-x will allow you to have 10 outputs.
i'm thinking about getting that Alesis AI3 and hooking it up to my optical adat port on the digi001 pci card.
yeah, i compared it to the mpc3000, even though i know now that the 2000 is cheaper, but i was told by Mr. dj that it aint as tight as the 3000 and who am i to argue with him, since he didn't have to help me with shit in the 1st place, but i'm not blind enough not to do my research either and check for my self. from what i can tell, the 3000 is like a kitted out 2000, and not as plastic feeling, nahmean? so if i get another unit, due to ease of use, it'll be a 3000
oh, and in pro-tools, the tracks are all different colors too...all of these programs, cakewalk, logic, cubase, etc., they are all the same basically. i got the digi001 so that i can bring tracks into the studio here and expand my track count(the 001 limits you to 24 tracks) and stankonia is getting ready to open up another pro-tools room and they are gonna use in house talent so that we can make the money that bringing in an outside engineer to track would make....pay us a lower rate and we'll hook the customer up just the same.
sorry if this is like a Goddam letter here, but i got security up here tonite and i'm by myself and bored as hell until 10am....but this is what this baord is supposed to be about, i think, droppin' knowledge and edjumakation, right ya'll...holla!
i've never had a glitch..then again i never use the sequencer.
Glitches fa sho but I still work it out.
the sequencer sucks on the realtime tip, but the song compiler is str8.
But yer comparin it to that bohemeth of a machine the 3000
which aint even made no more and expensive as hell, I know you aint bitchin and neither am I.
How many times have you had to replace the pads ??
I gotta do that ish, you know if its expensive??
HAHA... NODOOOZE... YOU A WILD BOY... YEAH THAT ASR-X GOT SOME GLIIIIITCHES LIKE FUNNY FACE BITCHES... FA' RIZZLE... I'LL HOLLA AT YOU MY NIGGA...
i love cakewalk's sequencing, everything is common sense, and all the tracks come up different colors, so they are distinguished from each other..the timing is perfect and it has all the good quantizing and any kind of swing you want..also can set the strenght of the quantize, if you dont want your drums to sound perfectly on time..you can also go back and step edit very easily. i dont see what could be better.
sup nodoze...how is the sequencer wit digi001??? cuz i plan on getting it jus wondering cuz alot of computer sequencers tend to be a lil rigid???
also rorschach, is it tight sequencing it wit sonar??(i have the program, jus dont got any midi pport on ma comp yet, lol)
